’Dutch Golden Age’ landscape artist Jan van Goyen (1596 - 1656) owned Dunne Bierkade 16 & 17. He resided at number 16 and rented a room to his assistant Jan Steen painter (1626-79) who married his daughter.
Jan van Goyen rented Dunne Bierkade 17 to Paulus Potter, animal painter (1625 – 1654) who married the daughter of his neighbour at Dunne Bierkade 18, Claes Dircx van Balckeneynde (1599 or 1600 - 1664) who was master carpenter, city architect & city building contractor building the ‘Noordeinde Palace’ and together with Pieter Post the ’Huis ten Bosch’ and ‘Catshuis’.
The front exterior facade of Dunne Bierkade 18 has change since it was originally built.
